Phuket Shooting Range

I love to shoot, erm that sounded so wrong lol! I mean I loves guns.

But seriously I have this great interest in firearms and also this interest should come with a slightly above avarage's marksmanship.

There are actually 2 shooting range in Phuket itself but majority of the tour guide or TUT-TUT/taxi/van will bring you to the one in Kata.

I dont know why the one in Kata (Phuket shooting Range) is more famous (probably because its kinda old and everyone knows it) but there is a new shooting range in Kathu (Kathu shooting Range) that is not quite as popular as the Phuket Shooting Range but they got better/newer guns and rifles, not to mention their price is slightly cheaper too!

I m still trying to figure out where in the map is that Kathu Shooting Range, once i got it figured out I will post the map up here ok?

How to get there :

I stayed in Patong area and to get to Kata I joined the 1 day tour, for 1,200 Bath (RM120) i get a private car and a driver to drive me around any place i wanna go for 6 hours. Very reasonable considering its only 200 Bath (RM20) per hour.

OR you can take tut-tut, I reckon it will cost your around 500-600Bath (RM50-RM60) bucks round trip per tut-tut. (I cant take tut-tut because i m travelling with kid and its kinda dangerous for him) but its still worth it because if you taking the city tour package you can goto more than 1 place at a fraction of the price. Actually we stopped at more than 8 places for just RM120.

The first shooting range (Phuket shooting range) is located in Kata district, this is the older shooting range and the one in Kathu is newer with better guns and rifles.

Rules and regulations of the shooting range

Its very important to observe the rules and regulations before you do anything, I was told that once a guy pointed the shotgun at his friend and asked her to take his photo and he accidently shot the poor girl ..... so be extra careful when you are handling firearms ok? Take extra precautions. They will ask you to sign a Letter of indemnity to indemnify them of any demages in the event of any accidents arises from the use of their firearms.

Prices of bullets and guns

890 Bath (RM89) for .38, 9mm, .45 caliber thats the price for 10 bullets
690 Bath (R69) for .22 caliber which is used for sniper rifles or standard .22 revolver
990 Bath for buck shot shotguns for 10 bullets
All prices comes with 10 bullets and rental of gun.

This junior sniper is running around the place collecting empty bullet's casing and put them all into his pocket.

9mm Bullets 10's for 890 Bath (RM89.00)

I took this photo when the instructor go and get a replacement gun because mine just jammed.

This is the 1st gun that i used, M92F 9mm automatic pistol.

Another 9mm handgun or izzit .45?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Scorecard at 15 yards, 9mm automatic pistol.

My pistol jammed during the 1st shot, normally the recoil would cause the emptied bullet's casing to jump outta the gun. but this time the bullet casing got stuck in the gun and the instructor took the gun and change it to another one. I then fired my second shot and its still the same! The bullet casing is stuck in the gun and once again i am given a new gun. This greatly reduces my accuracy because they are giving me a different gun everytime which is different in weight, recoil and targetting system. So, this messed up my scores KNN!

I was told that this place is really old and their guns are not as good as it used to be anymore, lotsa wears and tears, i hope they will replace their firearms the next time i go back there.

One thing you might wanna know before you picked up any 9mm automatic pistol, the explotion is L O U D! as loud as when lighting strikes, go please get proper ears protection before you start firing. Ear mufflers are provided free of charge by the management.

If you are a first timer, be extra careful of the gun recoil .... after you pulled the trigger you pistol will have this "kick back" action to it, hold your gun properly as there are still life bullets in it, you do not wanna drop your gun at this point.

Take you time, do not rush ... take your time to aim, not all gun are built the same ... some have different targetting system. as such you gotta fire 1 shot to test the accuracy then adjust your sight according to the 1st bullet mark.

Target at 15 yards, 9mm automatic pistol.

15 yards is kind far isnt it? Its like snipping with a pistol and its lotsa fun! Other than the loud "BOOM" explotion, there is this sound that were made by the casing of the bullets when the jumped out from the pistol and drop to the floor .... that sound is the best!

"X" marks the spot when i was given 2 new pistol! TWICE! diu! if not can get at least 80% accuracy instead of 68%!! KNN!

.22 sniper rifle

This rifle is not as heavy as it look, prolly in the region of 1-2 kilos very ergonomic and the scope is of good quality. You need to rest your rifle on the "pillow" provided so you wont stress you arms out. This is not an automatic rifle tho, everytime you pulled the trigger you gotta pull back the level to release the casing and reload your rifle .... not really that impressive.

Kathu International Shooting Club

Kathu Shooting Range

This place is not a favorite among the tour guides and tut-tuts, When i arrive at the shooting range, i have it all to myself ... no one else is there. Porn (my guide) told me that it might me due to the fact that this shooting range is outta the way from all those tourist attractions therefore not much tour guide wanna come here as it is outta their way.

Map of Kathu Shooting Range

Price of bullets and guns rental

Price in this place is about 100 Bath (RM10) cheaper than Phuket shooting range. But for bullets of .22 calibre its the same at 690 Bath (RM69)

I reckon if you gonna do lotsa shooting, you might as well come here, the firearms are alot better too! (in quality not in varieties)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Kathu's Stock handguns

I noticed that they do not stock lotsa firearms and also their pistol do not comes with any scope, so you gotta rely on the gun's targetting system. that is also the reason why i did not shoot any pistol here dispite them being cheaper.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Shotguns and Rifles

There is only 3 shotguns and 1 rifle here compares to the other shooting range which stores more than 10 guns and rifles on their shelves.

Junior Snipper getting ready

You can see from the above photo that we practically have the whole place to ourself.

EAT LEAD!!!! my score card.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Automatic .22 sniper rifle

This is an automatic rifle, all you need to do is to aim and shoot .... no nid to pull the level back to discard of the casing or to reload. the recoil on a .22 rifle is really at its minimum and if you are used to it you dont even feel there is any "kick" at all. If you really wanna feel the "kick" you should go for the shotgun.

The scope accuracy is kinda screwed up tho, I gotta readjust my sight 3-4 times just to get it right. But shooting here is kinda relaxing, that probably because I m the only guy around and I can take my own sweet time taking my aim and shoot without having to worry that there is someone waiting for me to finish before he could start his.

Despite having very limited choices of firearms I will definitely come back to Kathu shooting range in the future, prolly with my own targetting scope lol!

This is what you should do in the shooting range :

  1. First get a set of ears muffles, whether you are shooting or not! this will provide sufficient protection to your ears.
  2. Go to the gun room and select your choice of firearm (if you are shooting la)
  3. Sign some papers to indemnify them in case of any injuries arises.
  4. Ask your instructor to bring the gun and bring you to the cashier counter
  5. Pay for your bullets
  6. Get gogle from instructor to protect your eyes (if you are not wearing any specs) For specky like me no nid extra gogle.
  7. Sit on the chair provided and let your instructor load your firearm.
  8. Point, aim and shoot.
  9. Do not point your firearms anywhere else other than the target.
  10. once you emptied your firearms leave it on the table you are sitting on.
  11. Request permission to take photo of the gun (if you want that)
  12. Goto the cashier counter and ask for free stickers - image below (Yar I know, I dem cheapskate!)
  13. Get Lost or play another round!
  14. Burnt holes in your pocket and the scoreboards lol!

FREE STICKERS!

B690 for 10 rounds of .22! WTF I pay around B300 for 500 rounds of .22 or 50 rounds of 9mm FMJ in the USA.

I would shoot around 150 to 200 rounds on a typical day at the range. This would cost B10350 to B13800 in Phuket? Nice racket.

Fulamak! Damn kau expensive woi!! And I thot Malaysian prices were high. Anyway, that first gun isn't a 92F. It's a ParaOrd. Since u say it's 9mm then it's probably the P18 9mm version. Yes, the rest are .45s. Thailand ppl damn shiok 45 wan :p Sadly, Malaysians only shiok Glock. Stupid plastic guns...

sorry to say... the first gun u shot.. that is not the Beretta 92.
Its a colt 1911. Berettas don't look like that nor do they have the safety catch behind the trigger grip. Its on the slide itself.

    nevertheless.. goood pics ye taken:)
