Bangkok Ushering New Year with a Blast!

This is distrubing bcoz its so close to home and who knows whether this sicko trend will spread into our country anot?

lets hope things like this dont occur anymore in 2007.

Bangkok explosions leave two dead

A series of small explosions has left two people dead and at least 20 injured in the Thai capital, Bangkok.

At least six blasts at widely-scattered places occurred within an hour or so as streets were filling up with people ahead of New Year's Eve celebrations.

The city mayor ordered the cancellation of two major public celebrations and other smaller ones, AP reported.

Police do not believe foreign groups or militants from the Muslim south are to blame, says the BBC's Jonathan Head.

Our Bangkok correspondent says many Thais suspect the bombs were the work of opponents of the current military government, which forced Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra from office in September.

The largest bomb or grenade explosion went off near a bus station next to one of Bangkok's busiest intersections, Victory Monument.

Police said this caused the biggest number of casualties.

Reports suggest the device was planted beneath a seat at a bus stop or in a rubbish bin.

One witness who was standing nearby, 17-year-old Chalermsak Sanbee told Reuters news agency:

"There was a big bang and people started screaming and running. I saw people with blood all over their legs and faces."

Other blasts occurred:

-close to a police post in the Saphan Kwai district
-at a car park in the Season Square shopping mall
-at a market in the Klong Toey district
-in the northern suburb of Kae Lai
-along Sukhumvit Road in the north-east

The Federal Hotel Kuala Lumpur

When we announced that we would like to throw a party for bloggers and blogs readers at The Federal Hotel, someone asked me this "Where is Federal Hotel ar?"

Wah lau eh .... not so long ago (during my parents time lar) Federal Hotel is like THE Hotel of Kuala Lumpur, its the most happening hotel in the whole of Malaysia and my parents wanted so much to go to the top of Federal Hotel's revolving restaurant to dine but of coz back then they cant afford it.

A bit of background check on The Federal hotel reveals that it is built in 1957, details below :

A landmark hotel built in 1957 for the independence celebration of Malaya. This symbol of modern KL has witnessed the growth and developement of the city from its proime location in the heart of Bukit Bintang which in turn is the commercial and entertaiment hub of KL.

Most of the time when I got guests coming from abroad into KL and they wanted to go on a shopping spreemost of the time i would put them up in Federal Hotel as it is conviniently located in the center of the golden triangle. Its surrounded by all the shopping centres and food stalls and not forgetting it is just next to Low Yat plaza too!

On top of that their room rates are pretty attractive too, the rooms is clean and comfortable. On top of that I just learn recently from an email I received that Federal Hotel just did a soft refurbishment to most of the rooms and public area :

Federal Hotel has implemented soft refurbishment

- change of carpets for all corridors and Deluxe Rooms and an improvement of amenities.
We have added a new restaurant Yi Qi on the ground floor and Deleney's the Irish Pub has moved in from the Grand Plaza Park Royal Hotel.

With all this development, the hotel is looking very fresh and vibrant

Now there is even more reason to stay in Federal Hotel if you decided to visits KL.

And if you got no where to go during this New Year Eve, you could head on to The Federal Hotel KL, they got this canto pop band named HERO that will be doing the countdown with you!

Details below :

Federal Hotel will also be one of the sponsor in the bloggers gathering that will be held on the 9th of March 2007 in Federal Hotel.

Its a Wantan Meen's Life

Not known to many people, I have this special relationship with Wantan Noodle since I was at a very young age ... i practically grow up alongside wantan noodle. My mum used to rent a stall at this kopitiam in Kampung Baru Ampang selling wantan noodle and everyday after school and on weekends I am forced at canepoint will have to goan help her.

Therefore I gets to eat wantan meen everyday! I think if you smell my breath carefully .... you could smell wantan meen! LOL!

Maybe i m addicted to it, I must eat wantan meen at least once a week or if possible 2-3 times a week would be better! Other than being a Wantan noodle addict I m also the wantan noodle expert! I know which wantan noodle stalls is good or bad and needless to say I could make very tasty wantan noodle too!

My favourite is of course the "Kon low" dark sauce wantan noodle, I never seems to be able to like the soup type ... derno why.

Now my little devil seems to Inherited this wantan meen addict genes, same like me he too loves the dark sauce type of wantan noodle not forgetting the wantan too!

After a few years of being married to me, my wife seems to be fond of wantan noodle as much as me and our little devil.

Now I can truly claim that we are surely one Wantan Meen family!

Spring onions or i believed its called shallots in yingrish can really enhanced and bring out the flavour of a plate of wantan noodle, I always asked for extras when i place my order.

Charsiew - BBQ pork
I m very selective when it comes to charsiew, most charsiew are not properly roasted these days as charsiew roasting requires alotsa time and patient. Nowadays they just dye the pork with red dye and cincai cincai cook it .... lazy farkers! Thats why i rather not to have any charsiew at all than having bad charsiew.

This is "Jai-Meen" which means vegetarian wantan noodle. I m not really a great fan of meat, I do eat meat but if its possible I would prefer to go without any.

Prawn Wantan
Most of the wantan noodle stalls would only offer pork wantan, but some more upscale restaurants would replace the pork wantan with prawn wantan and of course in the process they will ask you to pay more la!

Stir Fried wantan noodle
Actually wantan noodle is pretty versatile, you can use it to make soup noodle or dry sauce noodle or even fry it.

Other stuffs that would go well with Wantan Noodle :

Pickle Green Chillis
This pickle green chilli are being made by soaking precut green chillis into vinegar for at least 2 days. They are not as "hot/spicy" as they used to be and it also have this sour sweet taste to it. a perfect compliment to wantan noodle.

BBQ pork ribs :
BBQ pork ribs is also a great compliment to wantan noodle, sadly this dish is not widely available and because it is difficult to prepare less and less wantan meen stalls carry them in their menu.

Wantans
What would a wantan meen be without wantan right?! But as human being is getting lazier and greedier, today you cant seems to find very tasty wantan with all kinda ingredient in them.

Roast Pork
Roast pork is still is one of the favourite dish enjoyed by the chinese community all year round but little do people know that roast pork goes well with wantan noodle too!

Soya bean Milk and Chinese Tea
After all that wantan noodle and bbq pork and wantan and roast pork rib and roast pork you definitely need something to wash down all the food with right? Soya Milk and chinese tea seems to be one of the best and healthy choice.

Ok kautim! Now could anyone tell me where I can find a nice plate of wantan meen in KL?

Bidor, Perak

I went to this place call Bidor in Perak yesterday because of work, Bidor is a very nice place and I enjoyed my drive along the way, little do I know driving in the countryside could be this therapeutic.

Unlike Kuala Lumpur, Bidor have lotsa space .... I love space, i felt so comfy when i see wide open space everywhere. There is no traffic, no cars, no mat rempit, no traffic lightsss, no jams!!!

I think this could be a very good place to retire in. Here are some of the nice photographs i took during my journey to Bidor.

The Way to Bidor

Bidor "City" Center maybe?

the trunk road to Langkap

one curved bridge

I got lost on the way to Langkap, here is where i stopped to ask for directions

One very very straight & empty road, How fast can i go?

Open space above the padi field underneath the blue sky.

Driving to Bidor is nice! I will no doubt to volunteer for more meeting in Bidor in the future!

Whose Egg Contest

I m not that superstitious but over the years i noticed that, the end of the year is where all the bad stuffs happens. On a larger scale there is this earthquake in Taiwan on boxing day something smaller would be the flood down south and of course my life is also in a bloody mess at this current time. Therefore, I concluded that year end SUCKS!

Ahbeng & Ahock are neighbours and one day Ahock's chicken laid an egg on Ahbengs front door, Ahock saw this and when Ahbeng try to take that egg Ahock called out to him :

Ahock : oi! thats my egg!
Ahbeng : Nabeh! what your egg? Its in front of my door so its mine.
Ahock : Farkiu la! The chicken is mine and of coz its eggs is also mine! now gimme back my egg!
Ahbeng : No way! This egg is on my property, so its mine!

This time Ahock behsong ledi ... he fast fast come out with a plan ...

Ahock : Ok fine! lets settle this like a man!
Ahbeng : Come la! sked u got bulu ka? How to settle?
Ahock : In the ancient time, if got dispute over eggs they will have a contest and who win will be the rightful owner of the eggs.
Ahbeng : What competition?
Ahock : Since we are arguing about egg, lets do it this way .... we will kick each others balls once and who takes longer time to get up consider lost! how? u dare to try anot?
Ahbeng : Come la!
Ahock : ok I kick you first.

Ahbeng then take his stand and get ready to be kicked in the balls. Ahock takes his aim and kicked Ahbeng in the balls as hard as he could!

Ahbeng fell to the ground holding his nuts screaming like a sissy, this goes on for about 15 minutes before Ahbeng could gather enuff strength to stand up. Then Ahbeng Says to Ahock :

Ahbeng : Ok u get ready ... now my turn!
Ahock : KAKAKAKAKA!!! Sohai ar lu? I m not gonna let u kick me in the balls la! U keep the farking egg la! I lose la! KAKAKAKAKA!!!

Robosapien V2 - Colors & Texture Recognition

Been busy playing with Robosapien V2 since I got it yesterday, Altho Robosapien is no where near Intelligent cyborg but compares to it siblings Robosapien V1 it can sure do heck alot more!

Robosapien V2 has the ability to recognise human skin texture and are also able to distinguish between different colors.

This is the most exciting features apart from the fluid mechanical movements of Robosapien V2. I took a video showing how I presents Robosapien V2 with coaster of different color and he managed to give correct answer most of the time.

When Robosapien detects human skin texture he will response by saying "primitive lifeform detected" or human detected followed by some random responses.

By the way, bowling pin = red and ball = green, the bowling pins and bowling ball came together with Robosapien V2 so sometime instead of saying red, it will say something like "Its bowling nite already?" or "Bowling pin"

There is still alot to explore and lotsa hacks can be done on this Robosapien V2, I guessed it will be along time before i could get bored with it.

Robosapien V2 Side View

Remote control to Robosapien V2

Powered up Robosapien V2

Gimme all your money!!!

In this video you can see the ability of Robosapien in identofying certain object. It can tell human skin texture if you put your hand in front of it.

For those who derno what this Robosapien V2 is all about ... heres an article plus specs for your reading pleasure :

Unless you've been living in solitary confinement on the Planet Tharg with your head encased in a block of extra-terrestrial concrete, you'll know that Robosapien was the runaway bestseller of Christmas 2004. Hardly surprising as the biomorphic marvel walks around on two legs, reacts to touch and sound and can perform practically any move imaginable.

What you may not know is that Mark Tilden, ex-NASA boffin and inventor of all things robotastic, has been busy creating something bigger, better and more gobsmackingly advanced than ever. Ladies and gentlemen, we give you Robosapien V2.

Before we describe the V2's astounding new abilities it's worth mentioning that this robotic masterpiece is well over 2ft tall. No, really! This drastic increase in size (9" taller than Robosapien) means that Robosapien V2 is less toy-like and more... well, more robot-like. Any bigger and you'd be scared of telling him what to do! Just like his predecessor Robosapien V2 is a mind-blowing fusion of technology and personality, but his fluid biomechanical agility, sassy attitude and stunning brainpower have been taken to an entirely new level.

For starters the V2's finely-tuned precision hands allow him to pick up much heavier objects than his smaller sibling. He can even throw things. But that's only the tip of the iceberg. Advanced agility allows Robosapien V2 to bend over and twist from side to side, so he can now sit, bend, lie down and stand up. He's almost as flexible as that dancing Transformer-style thingy off the car ad!

As well as interacting with his surroundings Robosapien V2 can now talk to you. Forget old school grunts and bleeps - with different phrases for different scenarios this is like having Robocop in your living room (minus the profanity and carnage). Fully equipped with infra-red radar vision, the V2's moving 'eyes' can detect obstacles and track movement. Robosapien V2 can even react to noises thanks to a stereo sound detection system. And before you ask, yes, we have ripped one apart to see if there's a little bloke inside. (There isn't, by the way).

But if you think all of the above is clever, get this: a sensory vision system enables Robosapien V2 to actually recognise and remember objects and skin tones. This means he can wave and reach out to shake his owner's hand. It really is quite uncanny and has to be seen to be disbelieved.

Robosapien V2 also comes equipped with laser tracking; simply use the ultra-sleek PS2-style RC unit to trace a path on the ground and the V2 will follow it. You can even use Robosapien V2 to control Roboraptor and Robopet. Come to think of it, if Robosapien V2 were any more advanced we'd be on the blower to John Connor, because judging by this must-have biomorphic masterpiece the robots are most definitely on the rise!

Features:

Robosapien V2 is a highly evolved robotic fusion of technology and personality, combining fluid biomechanical motion with a multi-sensory, interactive humanoid personality. This 24" (Approx. 61cm) tall, second generation Robosapien is now capable of autonomous behavior. He was designed by Mark Tilden ("father" of the original Robosapien) and includes the following features:

* Multiple levels of environmental interaction, with humans and objects; sight, sound and touch sensors
* Humanoid body movements, including bending, sitting and standing, lying down and getting up, waving, martial arts...
* Speech: Responds verbally to environmental stimuli and to controller commands
* Color vision system: recognizes colors and skin tones; interacts with objects and people
* Stereo sound detection system: "hears" and reacts to sounds
* IR vision: detects and avoids obstacles; tracks moving objects
* 'Laser' tracking technology: follows a path traced on the ground
* True bi-pedal walking with multiple gaits
* Precision gripping, articulated fingers
* Realistic 2-axis turning head with animated LED eyes
* Interacts with, and controls, other Robonetics products (Roboraptor and Robopet)
* Sleep and auto-shut off functions

Control features:

* 100 pre-programmed functions
* 2 demonstration modes
* 4 programming modes
* Controller or direct, positional programming
* Remote control and autonomous "free-roam" behavior modes

AirTouch Waterproof Foldable and Portable Keyboard

Seriously i dont really like typing on a notebook keyboard as the keys are small (or maybe I got big fingers?) and furthermore the keys are so cramped together, not to mention the lack of a keypad is also one of the main reason i dislike the keyboard that comes woth all the notebooks computers.

I always wanted something protable, light and yet can be expandable to a full fledge keyboard so i can carry it around with me in my notebook case.

I found this waterproof, foldable keyboard at Mines IT city today. Not only i found this keyboard but I also found my long lost brader Steve Siew whois now the Assistant Manager at one of the store in Mines It city.

Steve recomended me to this AirTouch Keyboard. Note that this keyboard is not only protable, its also foldable (you can roll it up or fold it up) and best of all its waterproof! Now you can spill coffee all over your keyboard and not worrying that it wont work anymore!

The rubberised key are very responsive and very ergonomic too! all you need is a flat surface and viola! you got yourself a full fledge portable keyboard! Its even claim that this keyboard is indestructable .... to which i very much doubt so!

Indestructable anot this is definitely a must have gadget of the year if you hated the crampy notebook keyboard that comes with your notebook computer.

The best part of all .... the pricetag on this wondeful keyboard! With something as wonderful as this your might think it will cost well over 100 ringgit rite? WRONG!!! its only RM39.90!!! Hows that?! Heck even a normal logictech keyboard cost more than RM39.90 rite?!!

Below are the photos i took at Steve's shop.

AirTouch Foldable, Portable and waterproof keyboard.

You can fold the keyboard for easy storage.

Bright red LED to inform you of your caps, scroll and num lock status.

Full size foldable, portable and waterproof keyboard

Indestructable? nahh .. try fire, fire will do wonders! lol

AirTouch keyboard ... yeah that name is abt weird ... i know lol

The price Tag : RM39.90 only! Mana mau cari??!!!

Nah! here is his contact infos if you wanna look for him!

This is the address of the shop he is working in. Other than this wonderful keyboard that shop also got lotsa sell all kinda pc/notebooks related products and spare parts. So if you are living around that area you could give him a call and check with him first.

He promised me to give you guys spesel discount if you tell him Rojaks recomend wan. If he dont give you tell me ok? I send linpeh go rape his dog!
